It’s a shame that the show hasn’t been revived and very is rarely performed regionally — more people could get a full sense of the scope of the show and its music.

Before I comment on the above quote, let me just add my thanks for your incredible post. Thank you so much for all the detail and the insight into the process and the result.

I think the key to the above comment has a lot to do with your spot-on observation that J-Lo is indeed a diva (meaning that in the positive sense). That's what I feel the show needs. I think it's ultimately important that WE identify with Aurora in a similar was the Molina does. Boston has seen two regional productions of this show, and both were solid in their own ways. But the one thing they both lacked was - and this is in no way a comment about talent - a real star quality performer (i.e. acclaimed diva) playing Aurora. Both actors gave very good performances - one more on the dancing side, one more as a singer/actress - but neither had the cachet of a real star. And I think the show lacked an impact in each case, because of that. I think you really do need a creditable star in that role - and whether one is a J-Lo fan or not, she has that star quality. So I tend to feel that if other directors/producers are thinking along the same lines, they're having trouble finding the right actress for the role, and therefore are not doing the show. It's a very tricky piece in that sense.
