I'm a bit late to this thread, but that performance was fucking fantastic. I've had nearly no desire to see this revival -- the show annoys me, yet I saw the original cast (with Buckley) *and* Glenn Close's revival -- but I have got to hand it to Ms. Scherzinger. She made an entire meal out of that song. When someone has the pipes that Nicole has, and wants to languish in the kind of vocal prowess they're capable of, it can be REALLY hard to find honest acting moments that break through and sustaaaaaain, especially when the notes do. Her focus blew me away. It's so clear that she has DONE THE WORK to analyze every word of that lyric and find what's underneath it, what motivates it, finding those acting moments in a way that feels honest and truthful. You can see that she's got images and intentions in her mind, letting each one come to hear one at a time, in its moment, fueling the things she NEEDS to say. (or, rather, sing) That's just damn good work. She deserves the praise she's earning. - GMB |
