Saw "Mattress" last night. In my opinion this is the latest in a long line of sloppy, cheap barely adequate revivals from City Center that don't add any value to the art-form. The score is mid at best, the new book does few favors. Sutton could be in a far better vehicle and the direction is awful at best. The second act scene with Lady Larkin where they basically decided not to even hang a full black curtain (we got half of a drop with exposed beam...???) Left me scratching my head. If this is what certain artistic directors heading to LC are doing- count me out as a funder. | |
